“ Descend, bold traveler, into the crater of Snæfellsjökull, which the shadow of Scartaris touches before the Kalends of July, and you will attain the centre of the earth; which I have done. Arne Saknussemm ”
You didn’t actually think I was done with Iceland, did you?
Jules Verne wrote the above in “A Journey to the Center of the Earth” when setting the scene for the descent into the earth through Iceland. There’s a bus tour you can take to get views of the volcano/glacier, they even stop and let you take pictures by the side of the road. Being on a bike means you can ride all the way up there and experience the site up close.
The ride up pays the bill up front.
And it jst gets better the farther up you go…
Once again clouds blur the transition from snow to sky, but a walk on the famous mount still awaits.
The ride back down is no slouch either!
