Up and Over

Finishing with San Pedro it was time to take on the Andes again and cross into Argentina for the ride up to Bolivia.

The road at this crossing is in great condition- fairly new tar with lots of signage.  Despite this, the riding still feels tough- at over 5,000 meters everything takes extra work and taxes your body.  Just keeping the bike smooth on switch back turns becomes a challenge as the bike seems to get ever heavier and you can never quite catch you breath completely.

Still, the ride is…  Well, you had to be there.  Okay, I’ll put it this way…  If ever there was a road, a view, an experience that could make someone understand and love riding, this is it.  It has everything- a perfect twisty tar road, great optional gravel detours,  massive elevation changes, fast straight-ways, and stunning natural beauty at every turn.
